If swimming alongside a majestic whale shark is on your bucket list, head to Villa Park or Villa Haven. These gentle giants can be spotted year-round, but your best chance of encountering one is between October and March.
Best time to see manta rays
The Maldives is one of the best places in the world to see manta rays. The season varies depending on the atoll:

Do I need a medical certificate?
Before diving, check the Scuba Medical Questionnaire on the PADI website. If you answer “YES” to any questions, you’ll need a medical certificate confirming you’re fit to dive. Even if you don’t have any medical conditions, we still recommend seeing your doctor before your trip.
How deep can I dive?
Your maximum depth depends on your certification level:
- Scuba Diver Certification: 12 meters
- Open Water Certification: 20 meters
- Advanced Open Water and higher: 30 meters By Maldivian law, recreational diving is limited to 30 meters, and decompression diving is not permitted.
Do I need dive insurance?
While dive insurance is not mandatory, we highly recommend it. You can find coverage from DAN or PADI, and DAN Insurance is available on-site for booking upon arrival.
Should I book my dives in advance?
You can arrange all fun dives and most courses upon arrival. However, if you’re planning to complete your Dive Master training, pre-booking is required. If you need an instructor who speaks your language, contact our dive center in advance.
What are the rules for flying after diving?
At diveOceanus, we follow the latest safety recommendations:
- No flying for 24 hours after diving
- No diving for 12 hours before flying
Can I dive without certification?
Absolutely! Our Discover Scuba Diving programme is perfect for beginners. With the guidance of an experienced instructor, you’ll get a taste of the underwater world in a safe and controlled environment.
Where is the nearest recompression chamber?
In case of emergencies, DAN operates a chamber in Bandos Island Resort (North Malé Atoll), and there’s also a hyperbaric chamber in Kuredu, North Malé Atoll.
Can snorkelers join the dive boat?
Yes! If you have a non-diving partner or just want to snorkel, you may be able to join the dive boat, depending on the day’s dive site and weather conditions.
What kind of valves are used on your cylinders?
Our cylinders are compatible with both DIN and INT/Yoke regulators, ensuring compatibility with your equipment.
Do I need an orientation dive?
All divers must complete an orientation dive unless they have logged a dive within the last three months. This consists of a dive on our house reef or lagoon to help you get familiar with the environment.
At Villa Resorts, we are committed to making your diving experience safe, exciting, and truly unforgettable. Whether you're seeking breathtaking marine encounters or simply want to explore the wonders of the Maldives’ underwater world, our expert team is here to guide you every step of the way.
